Zerohedge 4 agosto 2017Il regime saudita è di una crudeltà e brutalità estrema nei confronti dei cittadini della provincia orientale del Paese, una situazione ora fuori controllo con l’aumentare dei morti, interi quartieri in macerie e notizie su acqua e luce tagliate nella città assediata di al-Awamiya. Sebbene gli attivisti locali continuino a caricare video sconvolgenti sui media sociali rivelando interi quartieri spianati, i media internazionali e degli Stati Uniti osservano il silenzio. Nell’ultimo anno, soprattutto dopo l’esecuzione a gennaio del noto clerico sciita di al-Awamiya Nimr al-Nimr, vi sono state tensioni nel Qatif sciita. Inoltre, 14 cittadini sciiti, tra cui il giovane Mujtaba al-Suayqat, studente della Western Michigan University, attendono l’esecuzione su firma del re Salman. Tortura e processi di massa del gruppo accusato del crimine di “protesta”, hanno ulteriormente infiammato le tensioni nella regione. Grandi proteste contro la monarchia e i servizi di sicurezza saudita sono frequenti nel Qatif fin dalla cosiddetta “primavera araba”, anche se i grandi media internazionali ignorano le proteste che avvengono nei regimi amici di Stati Uniti e Regno Unito. Ciò in particolare accadde nel 2011, quando centinaia di carri armati sauditi attraversarono il viadotto Re Fahd per minacciare la rivolta popolare contro la monarchia sunnita del vicino Bahrayn. I media occidentali trattato l’evento in modo erratico e sottotono, con alcuni servizi che sottilmente indicavano le azioni saudite motivate effettivamente dalla protezione dei civili contro le forze di sicurezza del Bahrayn, mentre in realtà fu una grossa dimostrazione di forza contro i civili per preservare il regime autocratico assediato del Bahrayn. Questa settimana, le cose si sono drammatizzate poiché le autorità saudite concentravano un uragano di fuoco sul quartiere al-Musara di Awamiya, usando aerei, artiglieria pesante, lanciarazzi, cecchini e veicoli corazzati d’assalto. All’inizio dell’anno il regime saudita annunciò i piani per demolire il quartiere e consegnarlo a imprenditori privati in una sorta di versione saudita del “dominio eminente”. Tuttavia, la presenza di militanti sciiti nascosti nel strette strade e nei vicoli sembra sia il vero motivo della distruzione del quartiere. Anche se combattimenti sporadici si sono verificati d’estate, l’assedio iniziava l’ultima settimana di luglio, quando bulldozer e veicoli corazzati giunsero in città per avviare la demolizione mentre le forze di sicurezza tentavano simultaneamente di sradicare i militanti sciiti. Molti centri d’informazione mediorientali parlarono di almeno 5 civili uccisi dall’ingresso delle forze saudite, ma gli attivisti online parlano di molte decine di persone uccise dall’inizio dell’incursione.
Prima e durante l’inizio dell’assedio, i cittadini locali ebbero la promessa di “trasferimenti” promossi dal governo, sebbene gli attivisti li descrivano come pulizia settaria occulta della popolazione sciita, perseguitata storicamente dallo Stato wahhabita. L’informazione regionale pubblicava filmati che rivelerebbero l’attiva pulizia anti-sciita delle forze saudite. Un attivista di Awamiya, Amin Namar, affermava che c’è lo sforzo consapevole delle autorità di cambiare forzatamente l’identità della città: “Ciò che vedo dal primo giorno è una punizione collettiva… un piano per la deportazione. Niente a che fare con al-Musara e lo sviluppo, ma con la punizione di questa città per aver chiesto diritti e riforme dal 2011”. Un comunicato stampa della Commissione per i diritti umani delle Nazioni Unite rispondeva ai piani sauditi che annunciavano la demolizione di aree residenziali per lo sviluppo commerciale. L’affermazione delle Nazioni Unite suggerisce che è l’identità della città in realtà in gioco: “Gli esperti delle Nazioni Unite avvertono che il piano di sviluppo del quartiere al-Masura ne minaccia il patrimonio storico e culturale con danni irreparabili e che può comportare lo sfratto forzato di numerose persone dalle loro imprese e residenze”. Gli esperti delle Nazioni Unite avevano avvertito che l’intera iniziativa avrebbe comportato l’evacuazione forzata con misure estreme di coercizione, ma senza condannarla: “I residenti sono spinti in molti modi, anche attraverso taglio della luce, a lasciare le case e le imprese senza adeguata alternativa, lasciandoli con indennizzi insufficienti e, peggio, senza dove andare… Sembra che la demolizione sia stata annunciata senza alcuna consultazione significativa con i residenti e senza considerare alternative meno dannose, come il restauro o una comunicazione adeguata per informarli sui piani di demolizione”.
Armi da fuoco e bulldozer del governo distruggono le infrastrutture civili: i tiri delle autorità saudite distruggono i quartieri sciiti nella provincia orientale del Paese. Alcuni video sono stati caricati sulle pagine personali dei social media dai soldati sauditi per vantarsi del loro ruolo nell’assedio, dopo di che i video vengono eliminati dagli attivisti dell’opposizione. E ora l’assalto ha raggiunto un violento crescendo. Al-Masdr News riferiva che le forze del regime saudita sparavano su un autobus di civili mentre cercava di fuggire da Awamiya, uccidendo il conducente (altre relazioni non confermate menzionano il ferimento di donne e bambini). Reuters tuttavia presentava resoconti conflittuali sull’incidente, tentando di giustificare l’assedio brutale di Awamiya come tentativo della sicurezza saudita di “arrestare i responsabili degli attacchi alla polizia”. Mentre i dettagli e l’esattezza di vari rapporti sulle atrocità non sono chiari, con gli attivisti che citano decine di civili uccisi dal governo e i media allineati dello Stato affermare che combattenti sciiti hanno ucciso dei poliziotti, e la mancanza di accesso indipendente per i media rende una valutazione giornaliera difficile.
Questa settimana, al-Mayadin News di Beirut era la prima emittente satellitare araba a presentare video provenienti dagli assediati di Awamiya, riferendo di aerei militari che sorvolano la città e di un uomo in uniforme che sparava con un RPG su un’area urbana. Gli attivisti dell’opposizione saudita dicono che l’uomo era un soldato saudita. Nel frattempo, Middle East Eye riceveva un documento che gli attivisti dicono aver trovato nelle case della città assediata. Si tratta di un avviso di sequestro di proprietà che prevede l’obbligo di trasferire i residenti e timbrato dal Comando Nazionale Antiterrorismo Comune (NJCC) del governo saudita. Dava istruzioni sulle procedure di rilocazione, MEE citava gli attivisti affermare che le famiglie sfollate devono ancora essere alloggiate. Anche se non è ancora riportato dalla stampa statunitense, il governo canadese è criticato per la fornitura di blindati che i sauditi utilizzerebbero per la repressione dei civili. Nel 2013 il Canada ebbe un record di vendite, per oltre 13 miliardi di dollari, fornendo all’Arabia Saudita un numero non noto di blindati leggeri fabbricati dalla General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS). The Globe and Mail del Canada pubblicava un’indagine che scoprì che “video e foto diffusi sui social media mostrano il regno saudita utilizzare mezzi canadesi contro i civili”, specificamente nell’ambito dell’assalto ad Awamiya che ha causato morti tra i civili. Il segretario generale Alex Neve di Amnesty International Canada, invitava il governo a fermare le esportazioni di blindati, dicendo: “Indicazioni che veicoli corazzati del Canada siano forse utilizzati quando le forze saudite si mobilitano nell’est del Paese, evidenziano quanto sia cruciale che il governo intervenga e metta immediatamente fine all’accordo canadese-saudita sul LAV”. Stati Uniti e Regno Unito rimangono i maggiori fornitori di armi avanzate dell’Arabia Saudita e da sempre ignorano gli abusi dei diritti umani. Ironia della sorte, la popolazione sciita sempre più perseguitata nel regno si concentra nella regione orientale che produce gran parte del petrolio mondiale. Nel 2012, un’esplosione dei gasdotti, forse opera di militanti sciiti della stessa regione, fece balzare il prezzo del greggio temporaneamente nel timore che la “primavera araba” fosse arrivata nella provincia petrolifera.
È ampiamente noto che, dopo la fondazione dell’Arabia Saudita, i cittadini sciiti sono emarginati per motivi religiosi dalla religione ufficiale dello Stato wahhabita, che li ritiene eretici collegati agli interessi iraniani, soprattutto dopo la rivoluzione islamica del 1979. Le comunità sciite saudite sono presenti nelle aree storiche di tensioni che hanno visto proteste, sparatorie, detenzioni di massa e negligenza economica. Le dimostrazioni sono state da tempo vietate in tutta l’Arabia Saudita, un fatto raramente evidenziato dalla stampa occidentale. Attualmente, rapporti non confermati dei media allineati all’Iran affermano che i combattenti dell’opposizione yemenita hanno bombardato basi e avamposti sauditi nella regione del Jizan, infliggendo per la prima volta perdite alle truppe in territorio saudita. Mentre Qatif va fuori controllo, il contraccolpo della guerra dell’Arabia Saudita nello Yemen è sempre più probabile. As the Knesset prepares to vote Monday on the first reading of a bill that would outlaw the entire binary options industry, The Times of Israel has been contacted by friends and relatives of two people overseas alleging that they were duped by fraudulent Israel-based binary options dealers and that this led to their deaths.
Binary options is a multi-billion-dollar, widely fraudulent, Israel-based enterprise, employing thousands of Israelis, whose activities have been exposed in a series of articles by The Times of Israel since March 2016. Last Sunday, a bill seeking to outlaw the industry, which has flourished with almost no intervention by law enforcement for a decade, was approved by the cabinet. On Monday, it goes for the first of three readings in the Knesset.
In January 2017, the Times of Israel reported the case of Frederick Turbide, a Canadian businessman driven to take his own life after losing his life’s savings to an Israel-based company called 23Traders. (In a response at the time, 23Traders said this claim was “absolutely false.)
Fred Turbide’s tragedy was not an isolated case. The Times of Israel heard last week from the devastated husband of a 32-year-old woman in Singapore, the mother of a 3-year-old child, who said she took her own life last month, six months after losing a five-figure sum to Option.FM, a now-defunct binary options website. The Times of Israel also heard from a friend of a woman in Italy who said she fell into a depression and died after losing money to Strongoptions.com.
The man from Singapore, who asked not to be identified because he has told family members that his wife died of natural causes, said that the family’s troubles began in April 2016 when he was diagnosed with rare type of cancer and underwent major surgery.
“Right now I’m still recuperating and wearing a nasogastric tube to feed myself,” he told The Times of Israel in an email.
The husband, A., who until recently worked in the construction business, said he only pieced together what had happened after his wife’s death.
In the weeks since she died, A. went into his wife’s email account and saw that between June and October 2016 she exchanged emails with thee brokers at Option.FM, who called themselves Daniel Sharp, Kevin Bloom and Glenn Moore. (Fraudulent Israeli binary options companies ostensibly offer customers worldwide a potentially profitable short-term investment, but in reality — through rigged trading platforms, refusal to pay out, and other ruses — these companies fleece the vast majority of customers of most or all of their money. The fraudulent salespeople routinely conceal where they are located, misrepresent what they are selling, and use false identities, so these are most likely not the real names of the brokers.)
In her emails, which the woman’s husband shared with The Times of Israel, she tells the brokers that she desperately needs money for her husband’s medical treatment and seems to be reassured by the notion that her trades are “insured.” After depositing over $10,000 into her account at the urging of “Daniel Sharp” and quickly losing it all, the woman is contacted by “Kevin Bloom” who promises to help recover her “losses” if she only deposits another $4,000. The woman, who repeatedly tells her brokers how financially strapped she is, manages to scrape together $3,000, which her husband now believes was borrowed money.
Soon enough, she loses most of the additional $3,000 she put in to recover her original $10,000.
She sends an email to Option.FM: “At this point, I want you to refund what I have deposited cos it’s not my fault why I lost everything. It is your well trained account managers who gave me instructions to place the trades. Your analyst and signals are all rubbish if all trades will be lost.”
In reply to this email, Glen Moore wrote, “Considering the gravity of your allegations we have done an in‐depth review of your account and can confirm you have received all the ministrations as provided by Option.FM. However, Option.FM would like to resolve the dispute and keep all its traders happy by offering you a refund of USD 3500.00 to be returned to your credit card.” The Banc de Binary Tower in Ramat Gan in 2014 (
To this the woman replied, “the ministration you are talking about is not extended on me. I have discussed with your account managers my goal why I am investing (for my husband’s treatment). The promise of help is just a facade for me to deposit big sum and get trapped in the end.”
Ultimately, the woman appears to have accepted the $3,500 refund (out of the over $13,000 she deposited in total). But according to her husband, the money she used to trade had been borrowed from banks.
After her final correspondence with Option.FM in October 2016, the woman, an exercise studio instructor, fell into a spiral of debt from which she could not recover, according to her husband.
“The money that my wife used in that binary trading was loan money from banks. After she was scammed in order to pay that loan, my wife took another loan from other banks and licensed credit card companies,” he said.
By March of this year, buried under a growing mountain of debt, she resorted to borrowing money from loan sharks, after she received a text message offering her a loan.
She filed a report with the Singapore police, describing that interaction as it played out. But last month, her husband said, as a result of what he believes was the intense psychological pressure from the harassment by the loan sharks, she killed herself. One early morning, the husband said, he and his sister-in-law awoke to find her dead.
“Seeing my son crying while looking at his mom lying on the floor was more painful than my 23-hour operation,” he told The Times of Israel.
“She had already paid her loan, but these loan sharks wanted more and were extorting her through harassment. After my wife’s death these loan sharks started to call and message us. They are now after me and my sister-in-law. They have started to harass us and even send runners to our place.”
“My wife kept all of this to herself. As a husband it is very painful to me that I did nothing to help her. If only I had known… Until now I’m still shock and trying to live one day at a time. I hope you can help me and my son to get the justice my wife deserves.”
In a recent lawsuit filed by a Dutch citizen who lost money to Option.FM, lawyers Nir Friedman and Yossy Haezrachy filed evidence to the court that Oren Shabat Laurent, the former CEO of the much-censured and recently closed binary options firm Banc de Binary, is the founder of Option.FM, although he has denied this.
Friedman and Haezrachy cited a 2015 deposition before the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, in which Laurent stated, “We just started another brand called Option.FM, it’s called a backup brand. We use it for customers from Banc de Binary who wish to have multiple accounts, who don’t want to have one account. They want to have another account. So Option.FM.”
The Times of Israel reached out to Laurent for his response to the Singapore case, but had not heard back from him at time of publication.
Tragedy strikes in Sardinia
Meanwhile, The Times of Israel heard from a retired tour guide from the town of Sassari in Sardinia by the name of Antonio Sciplino, who lost about 75,000 euros to a company called financial-advice.net, an introductory broker for the website Strongoptions.com. Sciplino wired his money to TBI Bank in Bulgaria.
Sciplino, whose broker first contacted him in December 2014 and spoke educated Italian with a hint of a Roman accent, has had to go back to work as a result of losing much of his savings. He has spared no effort trying to track down his brokers, and believes that both Strongoptions.com and financial-advice.net were based in Israel.
Sciplino told The Times of Israel that he encouraged two of his acquaintances to invest in Strong Options as well. One of these, a 68-year-old woman of meager means, whom he believes lost between 15,000 and 25,000 euros, subsequently fell into a terrible depression, stopped eating and passed away.
“She was a desperate lady, she cleaned stairs for a living and had no money. You fall into the trap and they’re so clever you don’t even know you’re in the trap.”
Neither Strongoptions.com nor financial-advice.net is still operating, so The Times of Israel was not able to get a response from them, nor was The Times of Israel able to ascertain who owned Strongoptions.com. Financial-advice.net was at one point registered to Gerard Palord of CEA FINANCE at 35 Rehov Ha’avoda, Tel Aviv. The Times of Israel could find no trace of “Gerard Palord” on the internet, and was unable to obtain a response from him.
Beginning with a March 2016 article entitled “The wolves of Tel Aviv: Israel’s vast, amoral binary options scam exposed,” The Times of Israel has for the past 17 months detailed the largely fraudulent Israel-based industry that has been stealing billions of dollars from hundreds of thousands of victims worldwide for the past decade. The proposed law outlawing the entire industry that goes before the Knesset on Monday would impose penalties of up to two years in prison on anyone who violates the ban.

Coming Before the Divine Presence of God at the Mercy Seat
In the Torah, we see that only the Cohen HaGadol (High Priest) had access once a year on Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) to the very Presence of God in the Kodesh HaKodeshim (Holy of Holies), which was the heart of the Mishkan (Tabernacle) and later the Beit HaMikdash (Temple).
To enter in, the Cohen HaGadol would go through the Parokhet (פרוכת / veil or curtain) that separated this holiest of places from the rest of the Temple. The word “parokhet” is derived from the root perek (פרך), which can mean to break apart or to fracture, but also rigor and severity.
We can understand from this that the veil represented the separation between God and man caused by man’s sin, which originated in the fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. (Genesis 3; Leviticus 16:30)
At the instituting of the Brit Chadashah (New Covenant), the veil was torn and greater access was opened, as it states in Hebrews:
“Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Yeshua (Jesus), by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, His body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings.” (Hebrews 10:19–22)
We notice here in these verses that the veil represented Yeshua, and that when He died on the Roman execution stake for the sin which separates us from God, the veil was torn.

The Bible also describes His Spirit as endowing the craftsmen with intelligence and knowledge as well as ability in all kinds of craftsmanship, telling us that this indwelling of the Spirit of God was granted for a very special purpose.
Psalm 51:11 reveals that God had granted His Spirit to David, who laments, “Take not Your holy Spirit from me.” In this case, it is possible that God had given David a special anointing to enable him to rule. Because he sinned by killing Uriah, Bathsheba’s husband, he was in danger of losing it.
Because of Yeshua, we have this Divine Presence with us, and we need only ask to receive it.

What Is This Mercy Seat?
“You shall make a mercy seat [kapporet] of pure gold, two and a half cubits long and one and a half cubits wide. You shall make two cherubim of gold, make them of hammered work at the two ends of the mercy seat.” (Exodus 25:17–18)
The English term Mercy Seat is not a literal translation for the name that describes the place on which the golden angels’ wings touched and from where God would speak. This term comes from Martin Luther’s translation of the Bible.
The Hebrew word is Kapporet (כפורת), and the Complete Jewish Bible simply translates it as ark cover.
Kapporet is likely derived from kaphar, meaning cover. Indeed, it was literally a solid gold cover over the Aron HaBrit (Ark of the Covenant) that sat in the Holy of Holies in the Mishkan (Tabernacle).
Kaphar also means to purge, make atonement, or make reconciliation. With different vowel sounds, the same letters that make kaphar is pronounced kopher, which means the price of a life or a ransom.
Kapporet is also related to the word kippur (as in Yom Kippur), which is translated as purge, atone, expiate, and propitiate.
The Kapporet, therefore, is translated in some Bibles as the atonement cover and it is, indeed, connected to atonement, mercy, and restoration.

The Mercy Seat rested on or covered the Aron HaBrit, a box containing the Testimony (Exodus 25:21): “…and into the ark you shall put the Testimony [עֵדוּת edute] which I shall give you.”
The word testimony or edute refers both to the Ten Commandments and the Code of the Law in general. Of course, the Ark did house the two tablets of stone, which represent the entire law.
This Mercy Seat on the Ark of the Covenant was made of solid gold (Exodus 37:6), as were the keruvim (cherubim) situated at each end. The two cherubs were situated opposite to one another, and their wings touched between them.

We read in the Book of Numbers that at the completion of the dedication of the Tabernacle, the Voice of God spoke to Moses from between the cherubim.
“When Moses entered the tent of meeting to speak with the LORD, he heard the voice speaking to him from between the two cherubim above the atonement cover on the ark of the covenant law. In this way the LORD spoke to him.” (Numbers 7:89)

The Divine Presence of God or Shekhinah rested between the cherubim on the Kapporet above the precepts of the law.
It also rested above this Mercy Seat in a cloud that covered the Tabernacle, which is called the “cloud of the Lord.”
Likewise, we read in Scripture that God would appear in the cloud upon the Kapporet between the two cherubim and, at that time, the priests were not to enter into the Tabernacle.
“The LORD said to Moses: ‘Tell your brother Aaron that he shall not enter at any time into the holy place inside the veil, before the mercy seat which is on the ark, or he will die; for I will appear in the cloud over the mercy seat.’” (Leviticus 16:2)
The Kapporet played an important role in the Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) ceremony. The Cohen HaGadol (High Priest) was instructed to enter the Kodesh HaKodesh to offer the blood of sacrifice and incense at the Kapporet.
On this holiest of days, the Cohen HaGadol would enter through the veil but not without blood.
So while the Kapporet represented the relationship we are supposed to have with our Creator, it also represents the means of salvation from sin—the violation of the Torah contained in the Ark—through the sprinkling of the blood of atonement at the Mercy Seat.

The cherubim above the Ark have been interpreted by Rabbi Nachmanides (Rabbi Moshe ben Nachman, 1194–1270) as a manifestation of the “hidden wisdom” emanating from the Torah within the Ark. He believed they had the faces of children, a boy and a girl.
The prophet Ezekiel also saw in a vision of cherubim that they had four faces, one of a cherub, one human, one of a lion, and one of an oxen (Ezekiel 10:14).
While Nachmanides links the Divine Presence to the whole Torah, another great Rabbi and commentator of the Talmud (the compendium of rabbinical interpretations of the Torah, the five books of Moses), Rashi (Rabbi Shlomo Yitzchaki, 1040–1105), links the Divine Presence to the cherubim themselves.
He argues that God loves the Jew not for his wisdom or piety, but for his childlikeness. He loves us as children since He is our Father. (chabadtalk)

The Importance of the Ark of the Covenant
As a rule, the Jewish People do not venerate objects, preferring to focus on actions and beliefs.
The story of Abraham—the father of Judaism—destroying his father’s idols is well known throughout Judaism. As well, the Golden Calf worshiped by the Hebrews at Mount Sinai is considered a throwback to the bondage of their Egyptian pagan past.
The Torah clearly condemns the worship of graven images, and Jews do not venerate holy relics or manmade objects. This is taken so seriously that when television was first introduced in Israel, it was common to see news footage of ultra-Orthodox Jews covering their faces when confronted by a TV news crew, not wanting their faces to become “images.”
This practice eventually passed. Haredi ultra-Orthodox men no longer cover their face when confronted by a camera lens, although they do try to avoid them.
The Ark of the Covenant is probably the only exception to this rule not to venerate objects because its cover, the Kapporet, served as the manifestation of God’s physical Presence on earth, the Shekhinah.

The Ark was central to the life of the Children of Israel as they wandered through the desert. God used it as a kind of GPS hovering over the Ark in a cloud of smoke during the day and a column of fire by night to direct the path of the Tribes of Israel.
When it was time to move, the cloud would lift from the Tabernacle and begin its advance.
According to Rashi’s commentary, the Ark was carried 2000 cubits ahead of the nation (Num. R. 2:9). A midrash (rabbinic teaching) explains that it cleared a path “by burning snakes, scorpions, and thorns with two jets of flame that shot from its underside (T. VaYakhel, 7).” (Jerry A. Another midrash explains that those who carried the Ark were actually suspended several inches above the ground (Sotah 35a).

When the Israelites crossed the Jordan (whose waters split as the Ark was carried over) into Canaan, they bore the Ark around the walls of Jericho. The walls then fell when the trumpets were sounded and Jericho was absolutely defeated. (Joshua 6)
Eventually, the Tabernacle with the Ark was set up at Shiloh, about 20 miles north of Jerusalem. (Joshua 18)
Later, the Philistines captured the Ark but suffered great plagues due to its presence among them.
For that reason, they sent the Ark back to the Israelites, and it came to rest in Beit Shemesh, about 19 miles west of Jerusalem. After that, it was brought to Kiryat Yearim, about six miles west of Jerusalem. From there, King David brought it to Jerusalem.
When King Solomon completed the Temple, the Ark was placed in its new home where it stayed until the Babylonians destroyed the Temple in 586 BC. The Ark’s whereabouts since then has been the subject of much debate.

Where Is the Ark?
The rabbis believe that King Josiah (639–609 BC) learned of the imminent Babylonian invasion and hid the Ark, some say in a hole under the wood storehouse on the Temple Mount (Yoma 53b).
Maimonides (the RamBam a 12th century Jewish philosopher) wrote that Solomon foresaw the eventual destruction of the Temple and prepared a cave near the Dead Sea for the Ark, in which Josiah placed it.
Ethiopian Christians believe that they have the Ark and that it is being held in the Church of Saint Mary of Zion in Axum Ethiopia. It is said to be guarded there by a monk who goes by the title of the “Keeper of the Ark.”
The story is that the Ark was acquired during Solomon’s time when his son Menelik, who became emperor of Ethiopia and whose mother was the Queen of Sheba, stole it while visiting Jerusalem. In the past, this Ark has been brought out during Christian holidays, but because of the current political turmoil, the monk keeps it in a tent that only he is allowed to enter.
Archaeologist Leen Ritmeyer believes that the Ark is buried in bedrock under the exact spot where the Holy of Holies once stood. It is unlikely that the Muslim Waqf, to whom Israel gave authority over the Temple Mount in 1967, would ever allow any exploration of this site to discover if this is true.

The Ark Today
In a real sense, the Ark is still present among us, since Jewish synagogues (and even Messianic Jewish synagogues) have an Aron HaKodesh—a specially decorated closet or housing in which the Torah scrolls are kept.
Since it is believed that the original Holy Ark contained the original Torah scroll written by Moses, this seems appropriate.
The fact remains that it is through the blood and sacrifice of Messiah Yeshua (Jesus) and His sending of the Comforter, His Holy Spirit (Ruach HaKodesh) that we all now have access to the Holy of Holies, to God’s Mercy Seat and to His Presence.
We need only invite Yeshua HaMashiach into our hearts and lives.
It is through His grace that we are born anew and allowed to enter into God’s Presence just as the High Priest of Temple times. May each of Yeshua’s followers take their places as priests of the Living God.
“You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Yeshua HaMashiach.” (1 Peter 2:5)
And may we see in our day the Jewish People come to recognize that He is the One that the Hebrew prophets foresaw.
